Michael Page?s investment strategy made clear

How to resign

Resigning is always awkward and difficult to get right. When it comes to handing in your resignation, the main thing is to remain calm and be totally professional, avoiding personal conflicts. Keep things to yourself and plan well before you go into the meeting. Plan what you’re going to say and have your reasons for leaving worked out. Outline clearly why you have decided to leave and try to avoid negatives.

It’s important to keep your emotions in check if your boss takes the news badly; be firm and stick to your guns.

Discuss your notice period and make it clear that you have spent some time considering your decision. Remember not to burn your bridges as you may need a reference from your boss at some point and you may end up working together again in the future. Try and keep the meeting amicable and ensure that it ends on a positive note with an agreed leaving date.
