Recruitment within the engineering and manufacturing specialism was very positive in 2013, with several large multinationals deciding to locate new facilities in Ireland, while many expanded their existing presence here.
We have seen a big variance in salary for candidates moving companies. Some have moved for wage parity or lower in order to secure better career prospects or conditions, whereas for more niche business critical roles, strong candidates can get multiple offers and we have seen raises of up to 23%.
While there is still a high requirement for contract workers, strong demand for candidates in certain areas, such as automation/controls, has led to a shift towards permanency rather than contract.
Overall, salaries have remained stable, with pay increases generally only coming with an increase in responsibility or promotion. At a more senior level, we have seen some pay increases as companies look to retain key staff.
